Trump’s deal and the nature of the conflict

“The goal of the Jews in Palestine is to establish a Jewish state in Palestine. The goal of the Arabs in Palestine is to prevent the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine at any cost.” –November 1947, Ernst Bevin (British Foreign Secretary and father of the White Paper) explains the nature of the conflict at the UN. Nothing has changed since Bevin’s thorough explanation. The “Palestinian” self-definition is not a state of their own, but the elimination of our state. The “Palestinians” never demanded a state in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza when they were under Arab sovereignty. It is the struggle against Israeli sovereignty that sustains “Palestinian nationalism.” Trump’s Deal of the Century, the first phase of which – the economic workshop – will soon begin, is doomed to failure. The idea of solving the problem through billions of American dollars is complete idiocy, because it has been tried countless times in the past and ignores the nature of the conflict. American money will inflame the conflict, not solve it. “Even in our Koran, it says that the Land of Israel is yours. You, I can deal with,” an Arab MK once told me. “From the Nile to the Euphrates, I can deal with you. But the Zionists are just colonialists. They don’t belong here at all. They invented another identity and think that I’ll do the same, and that they can buy me off with money. I can deal with you, but when it comes to them, even Tel Aviv is something I’ll never give up.”
