No Biometric ID For Me
As 'expected,' the biometric identity card trial was 'successful' and now Minister of Interior Aryeh Deri has announced that Israel will require all of its citizens to register for a biometric ID card. With all due respect to Minister Deri, who signed the new regulation, I have no intention of giving my fingerprints to the State of my own free will. I also have no intention of being photographed for the biometric data base.
My identity is simply mine – not the State's.
The State belongs to me – I do not belong to the State.
Until now, when you surf the internet or carry your cell phone, you know that you are exposed to tracking and you can protect yourself. As soon as you have a biometric ID, you are in the net even if you choose not to be there.
You can try to escape to the beach or the synagogue on Shabbat. It won't help! No matter where you are or what you are doing, the system will be able to locate you, to identify you, to check you, to report you, to track you. All you are is a small pixel in Big Brother's pocket. Even George Orwell could not have dreamed this up.
The modern nation-state is a tool that is meant to protect you, to safeguard your liberty and to afford you the opportunity to actualize you personal and national identity. But it fails time and again to protect you, while employing the security excuse in order to negate your liberty and blur your identity.
